Grease Compatability

When the mixing of two incompatable greases occur,the mixture usually thins and runs which I have seen at the plant,thickening can also occur.Question,What reaction occurs between two incompatable thickeners to cause this to happen

is it the equivelant of desaponification for lack of a better word.
