I have a 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 3.0 L Mercedes BluTec CRD. I've used Mobil 1 ESP 5W40 for 49,000 miles. My local shop is switching to Castrol SLX. Both meet MB229.3 spec. I'd like to hear opinion/experience of Castrol SLX vs Mobil 1 ESP.

Cheers,

Don't you mean 229.31?

229.3 is a gasoline spec, not diesel.

SLX is a 0w-30 or 5w-30 grade, isn't it? But other than that, if you use either one, your engine should outlast anything else on the car, so take your pick. How often do you change oil?

SLX is just a little thinner than the ESP Formula M.

The SLX is used as dealer fill in Audi/VW/BMW diesels in the US.

SLX is ~$11/quart and the M1 is ~$8/quart.
