FUCHS Presents Groundbreaking New Engine Oil Technology

Faster, stronger, better for the engine: The new FUCHS XTL™ engine oil technology with its extremely high Viscosity Index* and outstanding ageing stability ensures even faster oil circulation and lower fuel consumption.

Advanced engine oils for cars which meet the demands of the engine manufacturers already offer very high performance levels. But the stresses on engine oils are increasing, for example as a result of downsized engine designs. And the climatic conditions in which engines must perform reliably are getting more extreme. Furthermore, fuel-saving technologies such as Stop-Start Systems make additional demands on the starting characteristics and lubrication reliability of the engine oil. The load on the engine oil increases noticeably over the entire manufacture’s recommended oil change interval. It is increasingly important that the oil circulates rapidly to the areas where it is needed.

Good reasons for FUCHS, the leading German automotive factory-fill specialist, to develop a new engine oil technology which offers additional, long-term performance reserves. The decisive technological advance of this new base oil technology is the optimised Viscosity-Temperature behaviour. Compared to conventional base oils, the new XTL™ technology offers a particularly high Viscosity Index. This means very low temperature-related fluctuations in viscosity and outstanding performance potential in extremely hot and extremely cold ambient conditions.

* Oils with a low viscosity index show stronger temperature-related viscosity change than oils with a high viscosity index.

Performance was tested in a complex series of tests: For example, an engine oil with today’s conventional SAE 5W-30 technology was tested against an engine oil of the same viscosity but based on the new XTL™-technology in a refrigerated chamber at –27 °C to examine the corresponding start-up behaviour. All-in-all, the tests confirmed the significant benefits of XTL™ engine oil technology compared to conventional SAE 5W-30 engine oils:

Easier cold start-ups:
Up to 55 % faster oil circulation and up to 35 % faster start-ups

Lower fuel consumption:
Up to 1.7 % additional reductions in fuel consumption

Lower oil consumption:
Up to 18 % lower

Improved ageing stability:
38 % lower viscosity increase. Thus greater performance and operational reliability over the whole oil change interval.

Differing somewhat in specifications but all approved by leading engine manufacturers, the Premium engine oils TITAN GT1 SAE 0W-20, TITAN GT1 PRO FLEX SAE 5W-30, GT1 PRO C-3 SAE 5W-30 and TITAN GT1 SAE 5W-40 are all formulated with the new XTL™ technology.

Don't know what the XTL technology is, but it sounds intriguing.
Is this another way to increase a syn oil's VI without using traditional VII's?

The technology applies to the ester based, VII and Zn free Titan GT-1 0W-20. It previously had a VI of 160, so I'm anxious to learn what the new VI will be.

When it comes to automotive technology since when have the Germans played a catch-up role?

Lets not forget the Germans INVENTED synthetic oil. They used it EXTENSIVELY in their aircraft and other vehicles during WWII.
That was 70 years ago.

Hi,
Boomer - FUCHS had a series of "SuperSyn" branded lubricants up until recently. No guessing where the Add Pacs came from!

FUCHS has been a long time player with a small range of fully degradable ester based lubricants. It would only be a guess where these were developed and refined - using ? Add Pacs of course. FUCHS were developing ester based lubricanst in the late 1930s

The formulation you allude to will have had an extensive testing programme - including Manufacturer's Field tests - and some of these lubricants already have Manufacturer Approvals

FUCHS are a Lubricants supplier to a number of Gernab engine Manufacturers

At the Nurburgring ADAC 24hr race in May FUCHS were running their 0W-20 "race lubricant" in a number of BMWs. Some of these engines were in the "prototype" development stage
I spent some time with one of the persons (an ex MB Senior Engineer) involved in this low viscosity programme for BMW-FUCHS

Titan GT1 0W-20 was developed in the 1990s and was a Porsche Cup lubricant for one year here in OZ around 2002. They supported one V8Supercar too I believe. It was released here in 2000 IIRC

They have an excellent product range

Doug: when you say Fuchs has a small range of fully degradable ester based lubricants, what does that mean? That they are biosyns of some sort?

Hi,
m6pwr - In their "language" - "This natural raw material based synthetic oil was developed for the Global market and combines technical, economic and ecological benefits. - ....biodegradable to more than 80% within 21 days"

These lubricants are zinc free and contain no VIs

Silkolene is a FUCHS Brand too and they are well known for their range of synthetic esters - including castor oil

They have been at it for a very long time!

For whatever reason I believe it is only their 0W20 that is zinc free.

I would be interested to know who used the term Supersyn first, for me I believe that it was Fuchs. So who copied who?

Fuchs have been around the German lube business for a very long time and I would struggle to think that they would just buy something off the shelf from Mobil and put it in a bottle. U dont get to be the largest independant lube supplier globally by copying what other companies do.

I recently attended a presentation by one of the Fuchs sales guys and let me tell you they are not a company that follows. It was interesting to see how they have grown over the years and why.

Hi,
The_Chief - SuperSyn, SpectraSyn, Synesstic and others have been registered Trade Marks of Exxon ExxonMobil's Chemical Division for a very long time indeed - and Patents apply

There are many others too and these apply to esters (Esterex) and PAOs etc - they are the Worlds largest supplier of these at the extremes of viscosity too

Their products are used by many Blenders. Russian, Korean and Chinese Oil organisations amongst others are all "in the game" today

In the mid 1940s much of the German Oil Industry formed alliances with US and British organisations - the web is indeed complex and well interlinked

Doug, I think you have too much time on your hands or Airlie Beach is not what I remember.

I worked near Airlie Beach for about 6 months and all I remember doing was fishing.

I'm going to have to get some Fuchs oil now.

Do you have the video description in English too?

I have requested this "new" FUCHS from the Canadian supplier...specifically the 0W20 grade. I hope to have it in my oily hands sometime this spring.

Unfortunately not.
I got this material yesterday.
You can use google translator

I do not know yet the price.

It will be a good oil.
Certainly better than Motul, Castrol.

And google translator works just fine for me in this situation.

I wonder when a variety of grades of FUCHS oils will be (readily) available in NAmerica.

It may not be possible.

As I recall it may be the case that you can obtain 5W40 Fuchs through BMW/Audi/Porsche?
