On one of my bikes I was using the HD oil. Last year I changed to Amsoil 20-50. Not only did I notice it ran a little cooler this past summer (dipstick analog temp gauge), but I didn't have to top off the oil every few weeks to maintain the level. I'm liking the Amsoil. I don't carry a little bit of oil with me anymore on those long full day trips anymore. Seems to really reduce the consumption rate.
On my other bike, I'm using Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic for the last few years, it's seems to hold up okay also.
I just generally change the oils/filters on the bikes once a year,as I don't rack up high miles on either each year to worry about changing by mileage.
