I am quite sure you are right; we could have got one for $2900 IIRC from when we were shopping, with comparable mileage. But I would bet on it being full of white-box [censored], instead of the quality Moog and Motorcraft parts that were used on this one.
The Tie-rod was quoted based on having to drop the rack; which is how Alldata described doing it according to the Mechanic. The Moog box came with instructions telling you to use a pipe wrench; which I also found on-line. So that's what I used. Turning a 3+ hour job into a 45 minute one!
