I'm currently running Motul 300v 10w40 ... I think it gets a little thin on long hot summer rides ... causes a decrease in shift quality when I've run over 2.5hrs straight in 95F+ heat ... bike is an air cooled Ducati. If I run for 2hrs and then shut down for 1hr and then get back on and ride another 2hrs I never notice an issue with shift quality.

I'm thinking about trying the Mobil 1 15W50 automotive oil in it and see how it goes ... bike has a dry clutch so the only real concern is the gear box chewing up the oil. However, I change the oil every 2k miles ... owners manual says to do it every 6k but that's too long IMO for an air cooled bike with a common sump gear box.

Any thoughts?

Thx ... JHH

It's still a 40, but you might try an HDEO like Rotella T or Delvac and see how they hold up. They aren't expensive to try and many have had good luck (myself included) using them in air cooled engines.

Of course, there's always a 20w50 if you really need something thicker.

I haven't used the Mobil 1 15w50, but it's worth a try too.
