I bought a five gallon pail of Tech 2000 15W40 diesel oil today for $20.00. Anyone familiar with this? I'm thinking of running it in my Kubota diesel power plant engine.

killer man,i'ts probably CI-4?

great oil NO problems at all using it,can i ask where did you find it?

what does your kub recomend? 10w30 to 15w40?

From what I understand "Tech 2000" is/was the previous walmart house brand/generic - which is now "Super Tech".

Wonder why the change.....methinks it could be related to the whole "y2k" [censored] that was going on at the turn of the century, "omg the world's gonna end and all computers are gonna die and turn over to "00" instead of 2000!....

And yea, as typical are "house brands" - there's loads of conversations within Google regarding the brand :)

that post is from 1999...

But interesting, http://www.trentongasprices.com/Forum_MS...3&page_no=1 has a post from 2007 about a "Tech 2000" oil for sale at walmart....likely old stock :) Since I have NEVER seen this brand at my local walmart :)

Then a 2000 post http://www.twoguysgarage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7663 that states that "Tech 2000" was a totally different "brand" that got bought out....so who knows. It's all Internet speculation I guess lol.

Actually, what's the UPC (barcode) show on the product :) I'd be curious.

On Topic:
I think they still use the Tech 2000 name for some products other than Engine Oil in the USA.

Off Topic:
I bought a lot of Tech 2000 Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil when I was running Mercury 2.4 and 2.5 Racing Outboards. I think it was produced in Louisiana by a small blender that was supposed to have a connection to Pennzoil. Excellent product for a reasonable price.

"can i ask where did you find it?"

I bought it from a guy who sold his diesel generator. He no longer had any use for it.

The Kubota manual recommends 10W30 oil for all season use. I don't run the generator in the winter so I'm thinking that for spring/summer/fall use, it should be fine. The engine is 27 years old with close to 7000 hours on it. I doubt that it will be too fussy about what oil goes in it.

Those little Kubotas are very robust engines. They're used all over the world and who knows what gets thrown in them?

It's kind of confusing, in Canada the Tech 2000 15w-40 comes in several grades, Farm, Fleet, Owner Operator (Yellow Cap) etc. I'm not sure what the difference is? I have never taken the time to get the 'low-Down'
It's a waste of time asking the guys a WM, and Safety Kleen don't answer!
Anyone know?
