Watching SpeedTV right now - they're showing last year's Charlotte World of Outlaws race (tonite's race postponed by rain). They did a segment on Steve Kinser's engine, and his crew chief said they use "17-35 synthetic oil".

Given the metric truck loads of money that is invested in this sport by the various teams, it's not unreasonable to think that they're using something that isn't on a chart somewhere. Like Steve said you can buy whatever blend you wish and since these engines have special needs I'm sure the race teams are doing just that. It'd be silly to think that the race teams are using an off the shelf SAE spec oil for an engine that operates so far outside the parameters of a normal engine it's unreal.

Many Sprint Car guys run Pennzoil Racing 25W-50....just like Layton and Rahmer when they kicked some Outlaw @$$ in PA.
