I found this list of oil brand names manufactured by different companies. It's not the most up to date list (2006) nor is it thoroughly complete. However, it is informative.:

Ever wanted to know who makes what oil? Here's the who makes what list. If you see any discrepencies, please feel free to edit the list and repost.

Pay special attention to ExxonMobil, making a lot of oils that do well in Toyota v6's & v8's.

Didn't SOPUS sell the Wolf's head brand to someone else quite a few years ago?

I have not heard of most of the names on the list.

I saw this stuff called Texas Gold at the dollar store. All they had was a huge pile of SAE50. Never seen that before.

Just to pick a nit here, as it were, for those of us from Canada (yourself included), Esso, at least in the past, has been marketed as Imperial Oil, and some of the legacy oils they produced and some may come across may be marked as Imperial Oil, in conjunction with any Esso markings. I am assuming that is different from any Amalie branded "Imperial."

Most Esso bulk stations in years past, at least, branded themselves as Imperial Oil.

I see that Canadian Tire brand Motomaster brand isn't listed under Mobil/Exxon/Esso/Imperial Oil.

How about a spread sheet to make this list a little more presentable and easier to up-date. Only if you're interested in doing so, of course. You seem to have a talent for this stuff.

It would be nice if BTOG could put a finalized updated list up as a "sticky".

Agree Garak.

The list appears to be far from complete. See my previous message requesting ZedHed.

The whole Warren/Coastal/Unilube list is crazy. basically, they make bargain oil for gas and go places that feel like stocking top-off oil in their stores? :)

I was under the impression Warren Oil,Coastal,Unilube,Lubriguard,Warren were all one in itself?

same with the next, "Warren Performance Products (WPP)"? They aren't the same?

I know the jugs and qts of Supertech at my WM have the "WPP" logo, but was under the impression Warren Performance Products, and Warren Petroleum were the same company :)

I know last time I went to their site, their "own" brands are stated to be Coastal.

Go to http://www.warrenoil.com/ - and you are greeted with 2 possible entrances, Warren Oil and Warren Unilube (which states "manufacturer of Coastal products"). But Warren also makes the "Autoguard" brand which is sold at Dollar Tree stores
wink.gif
Can't beat 1$/USD for Fuel Injection Cleaner, Gas Treatment, PSF, lol. I only wish they sold $1 windshield wash
wink.gif
WM sells PEAK for 1.18 hehe

Chevron makes lots more "private label" oil than that! Can't say how I know - but there are some big names that would surprise many.

It is not uncommon for for a lube supplier to use multiple sources for lube manufacturing.

The list gets real small when you start looking at who develops and manufactures the additive packages. Chevron - Oronite, Lubrizol, Afton, Infineum being the majors, with Oronite and Lubrizol dominating.

This list must just be PCMO as Cognis is missing. Cognis makes private label HDEO, tran and diff lubes for Navistar, Eaton, Dana and many others.

NO. There are two Different companies. I covered this many times in the past. WD/WPP are in Omaha, Nebraska and unrelated to Warren that makes the Coastal (cough-cough) lubricants.

Since something like 2000, almost ALL C-T oils have been made by SOPUS (more specifically, the Shell division of SOPUS)

Thanks for the update. I was under the impression that Imperial Oil was still making their Motomaster brand oils. I'm OK with Shell taking over. After all, they do make some top notch oil and I've been using Rotella for years. Works for me.
