Chevy 2500 6.0L????

I just picked up a 2006 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0L and there is no owners manual.
What is the engine oil spec on these trucks? 5w30 or 10w30?

You may also want to ask how much oil that engine holds.
You can download the manual.... read it online, or order one from your nearest Chevy dealer.

That was fast! Thanks! I kinda figured a heavy duty truck would use a 10w30 or possibly a 40 oil.

Not a gas engine, a diesel, yes.
 
5w-30 is the spec, but they run just fine on anything from a 0W-30 to a 10W-30.

6 quarts is the sump. Filters are easy to find.

I have run lots of GC in my 5.3L (same engine family as yours). Now running Castrol Edge 10W-30 and its great. PP, Chev Supreme, QS, etc have all been used with good results.
 
I have the high output version (345hp vs 300) of the 6.0L in my truck ('06 Sierra Denali crewcab) and I just use Mobil 1 5W/30 in winter and 10W/30 in summers. Works for me. UOA's always good too. That 6.0L is a great engine, a little thirsty, but I didn't buy a truck for fuel economy.

I get owners manuals off Ebay. I think people get them from wrecking yards and sell them.

I have a 07 1500 Silverado with the 6.0 and I use CG 0w-30 year round. Runs great, oil pressure builds fast at start up and no ticking at all.
 
I think 99% of the time in Texas 0w,5w, and 10w-30 will all work well. Unless you get a severe cold snap. The Amsoil info I posted says 5w-30 preferred. But all three would be fine.

I have same year 2006 but it's 1500 HD, I know it's identical to 2500 but 2500 HD is like 3500, so what are the differences?

I've had good luck with all oil but mainly feed it M1 05W-30 with 7500 change intervals. I get about 12.5MPG and up to 14 if it's all highway about 60.
