So I traded my backpack blower for an old Toro Wheel Horse that I pretty much know nothing about. It's got an 8hp Briggs in it that seems to run mint. I have no idea how old this thing is or it's history, but I did an oil change on it and it seemed pretty think and black. I ran a quart of oil through it with the drain plug off and it took a while to make it's way out...so I think it needs a pretty good cleaning of some sort. Anyone have any advice on what to use, and possibly about how old a machine like this is? It's got a 5 speed manual and it seems like a chain drive.

I wouldn't do much other than run a few short OCIs and make sure to drain the oil when it's really hot. You might fill it up with some diesel and let it sit overnight, then drain it out.

I'm not familiar with a WH with an 8hp Briggs. The 300 series are the beasts. Toro still lists the "Classic 300 Series" on the website, but I don't think they're in production anymore. They were about ~$4500 with a deck. http://www.toro.com/home/tractors/classic300/3158.html

You probably have the 200 series. They were a lighter duty mower. Does it say it on the hood or under the seat? Check out this site for info these guys know alot. It where I got info when I got my 310-8 for free.

The 300 series on up have the UNI-drive rear end, It looks like a car's differential-very well built. Is your gas tank under the hood or under the seat?

Sweet! Plus you can't beat how cool you look at the controls of those babies. Leather flying hat, goggles, etc.

Speaking of WheelHorse's, I saw a guy in Topeka this past weekend shovelling the neighborhood snow with a WheelHorse.

It looked ancient but it did the job.
