I purchased the new Mobil 1R 0w30 and it looks and smells like used oil. Is this a characteristic of this oil, or could it be defective? The bottle was sealed.

It's that Omega-3 fish oil they are now using.

Obviously he does or he wouldn't have posted the question.

You're right, I don't care what it looks and smells like if it works. I was asking the question because it is much different than what was expected, and I thought perhaps there was a problem with the product.

The MSDS has:
Name CAS# Concentration*
ORGANO MOLY-SULFUR COMPLEX CONFIDENTIAL < 2.5%
ZINC DITHIOPHOSPHATE 68649-42-3 < 2.5%

Maybe the dark color and smell is a result of the moly?

Could be.

Ever see/smell the Torco MPZ additive??

It smells like freshly dug up earth, and looks like dark mocha coffee with some rust coloring added.

BTW; WHERE did you find this oil??? (I've NEVER seen it on a shelf anywhere!!)

From a distributor or on line only i believe since it's race only and not recommend for street use.
