Grease is dispensed by automated equipment in the factory during bearing assembly. An old-timer told me that - long time ago - every time they switched to a new barrel in the factory, there were always a couple bearings that got no grease.

So, this wouldn't be the first time... except that maybe it's a first time that a recall ensued.
