High mileage oil, is it really needed?

Not sure how it can be a "higher viscosity formula" when it is a 10w-30. Higher than what?

A 10W-30 has a specific viscosity range. There are thinner 10W-30's and there are thicker 10W-30's that still fall within the 10W-30 range.

For example, an SAE 30 has a viscosity range of (at 100C/210F) a minimum cSt of 9.3 and a maximum cSt of 12.5.

I had the same thoughts on a fairly high mileage vehicle (220K on Honda D16a6 on VWB 3-4K OCIs and runs perfect)... but decided, if it aint broke, dont fix it. It wouldnt hurt, but in my case, the WB is cheap, available and it got me this far. In my experience, a decent oil that meets your specs and weather conditions and reasonable OCIs are what its all about. Now, severe duty\towing\racing\long OCIs\etc, that changes the equation.
