Looking for a recommendation for my LS3 Camaro, was planning on just staying with Mobile 1 like it came from the factory and probably Purolator PureOne filters

1. What kind of vehicle you have?
2010 Camaro 2SS LS3

2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well?
Manual says oil must meet GM Standard GM4718M, 5W-30, comes from the factory with Mobile 1 Synthetic, interval is based on the Oil Life Monitor, I already changed the oil once after about 1100 miles after breaking it in pretty hard and had planned on changing it again after another 5000 and sending a sample to Blackstone labs for an analysis and then adjust based on that.

3. Where you live?
Central New Jersey

4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)?
All of the above actually, a lot of cruising on the highway but also a lot of hard accelerations whenever I get the opportunity :)

5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)?
The majority of my mileage is on the Interstate cruising at 75 or so around 1800 rpms but also do some local around town driving (stop and go) but that is maybe 5% of the miles I put on the car, everything else is on the highway

6. Whether your car has any known problems?
Nope....

Thanks in advance for any assistance...

(edited the original post, listed 5w20 but it is actually 5w30 from the factory and what I added at the first change)

The regular Mobil 1 5W-20 would be fine, however I'm really liking the Mobil 1 5W-20EP in my cars. Another good over the counter 5W-20 would be Pennzoil Platinum.

Nice car.

Seems like your oil temps will be well inside the normal range, so 5w-30 should be fine.

I think Mobil 1 is a slam-dunk, honestly. There are alternatives, like Pennzoil Platinum, but your engine was designed with Mobil 1 in mind so I don't think you stand to gain much by switching.

Mobil 1 5w-30 is one of the best oils on the shelf, anyway.

I know you are still under warranty, and sticking with the 5w30 oils is probable a good idea for the time being. But I prefer the M1 0w40 or GC 0w30 for my LS2. It seems to like a heavy 30 weight oil.

Welcome to the Forum and CONGRATS on a nice new ride. What color did you get?

Mobil 1 will be just fine.

Me personally I would skip the first UOA, as things settle down after you get some miles on it then UOA will help establish a baseline number to stick with if you stick with the same oil/filter combo.

Of course you are free to do what you wish obviously...

1 08 Vette
2 same as urs
3 Stl,Mo
4 it's a Vette
5 Retired, no daily drive:), mine does sit for a couple of weeks sometime.
6 none.
7 I am running Redline 5w-30, Napa Gold filter, just turned over 15k miles, No Problems.

This oil does not have the GM4718 spec.

Neither does M1 0W-40, but you can bet your bottom it will outperform M1 5W/0W-30 in every respect save for fuel economy.

Do what government motors wants while its under warranty. Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, Pennzoil Platinum, and just about any other name brand 5w30 that meets your GM spec will work fine.

Would you rather have them as "Government Motors" or out of business altogether?

x2, and I must say that except for the heft of that ride, I AM envious! (The FIRST mods I would make if I owned one would be weight reduction every and anywhere I could.)

They would not be out of business, they would have simply gone into bankruptcy sooner, or been bought out or merged with another corporation that knows what they are doing. Instead the government, who cannot produce a profitable enterprise(UPSP, Amtrak, ect), has stacked GM and Chrysler with various "czars" and bureaucrats that do not know their butt from an exhaust manifold.

Having parents that escaped a "socialist paradise", anything that smells of socialism, I shall have no part in if I can help it.

Go ahead and buy a GM, I mean they already got your and your children's money.
