I have a JD 2305 subcompact tractor with a Yanmar 3 cylinder engine. The manual calls for 10w30 hdeo, but jd does not carry 10w30 diesel oils. Current fill is jd 15w40 plus 50. The machine currently has 187 hrs, when can i change to a synthetic, and what would be the best one for this application?
THANKS

A friend's Yanmar 3-cyl diesel in his sailboat seems to be happy with Delvac 1300 15W-40 for the past 4 seasons, but I think the sticker says 30W HDEO. I use the same in the Volvo Penta 4-banger diesel in my boat.

You can switch now. While running a 5-40 may be fine I'd stick with weight that the oem calls for.

Hi - I have two JD's with Yanmar diesels. The first I put Mobil 1 in after 150 hours, never had an issue. I have since simplified my life and pretty much use Shell Rotella in everything including gasoline engines. Been about 14 years now and I have NEVER had any issue that was oil related, of coures I never did prior to that either.
