Any recommendations for Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel (M-B OM642 engine w/DPF and NOx catalyst)?

Please see my post here for engine oil:
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1641497#Post1641497

Usage is mainly commuting weekdays 60 km. Occasionnal 7000 lbs RV towing for small trip (250-500km trip, ~10 times per summer).

Smooth regular driving, temperature conditions are -30 to +30C around year (Vive le Québec!) but engine will be plug overnight below -15C for sure.

And appart engine oil, any recommendations for the following:

Manifacturer recommendations:
  • Transmission: Mopar ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid
  • Transfert case: Mopar NV 247/245 Transfer Case Lubricant
  • Front/Read diff: Mopar Synthetic Gear & Axle Lubricant SAE 75W-140 (API-GL5) or equivalent with friction modifier additive.

I love this truck and it should last as long as it can so I want to take good care of it!

Thanks!

I would of course use a MB 229.31/51 approved oil; 229.51 preferred. My top choice would be Mobil 1 Formula M ESP 5W40.

Good choice, but I don't know if it's available in Quebec.

Once you're out of warranty, why not use a truck diesel oil 5W-40 rated for ACEA E7/E9? The ACEA ratings are for diesels with DPF or EGR/Cat combo. The key thing, as you pointed out, is low ash for the DPF. Until then, the Gulf will do fine.

NOT a good idea. E7 oils have way too much ash and can have too much P. E9 oils have 1.0% ash, still too much, C3 calls for 0.8%; also too much P (up to 1200 ppm), C3 calls for

On "Mercedes Operating Fluids - Extranet" for OM642 w/DPF, 228.51 (E6) oils are approved but not 228.31 (E9). And 228.3 (E7) and 228.5 (E4) aren't approved either. E6 oils have

Yes yes indeed it is at my local M-B dealer, check my other oil post:

And I think I will actually uses Mobil 1 at my next change :)

Oh and I didn't know there was specific Break-in and/or Factory Fill oil too!

Looks like my Jeep M-B OM642 was factory-fill with 225.11 oil specs, according to 225.10 paper.

And there is only one 225.11 oil approved:
MB Formula 225.11 5W-30 x Exxon Mobil Corporation, FAIRFAX, Virginia/USA

Funny, German-built M-B engine are factory fill with USA Mobil 1 oil hahahah!
