I have a 93 Miata which is driven during summer only-and I would like to put it to bed with fresh oil. This would mean about a 9,000 OCI. Car is gently driven, always warmed up, and 90% of miles are highway. Have been using Mobil 1 5-30.

Do you think this is too extreme?
Thanks in advance
John

This is a pretty conservative OCI for this usage pattern. I run 8-9k on dino in my Cavalier winter and summer. UOA's are fine....

No problem really but I would go to M1 0W40 and I would know that it could easilyhandle that! It is their best oil for doing long oil change intervals.

How many miles per year are you driving? I have a 1991 BRG with 41,000 miles on it. The car is driven only about 1,500-2,000 miles per year.

I change the oil every two years with synthetic oil and a high quality filter. It probably could easily go longer.

I just switched from 5w/30 to 10w/30. My early assessment is that the engine is a bit quieter with the 10w/30.

Incidentally, it never uses a drop of oil in between changes.
