Lets talk about Lucas UCL

It should be used year round... In the winter for the reasons you specified and in the summer to keep the valve and rings cooler.

I use it year round and am one of those guys that goes a little heavier on the winter mix. MPG's are going to take a hit in the winter anyway so why not add a little more MMO to the gas?

Ive been using lucas UCL in my 95 neon, for good 4 years now, on and off, between MMO. In my car, ive ntoiced a quieter smoother engine, IF i use about 4 ozs per 10 gallons, not 3 ozs, as directions say. I do not have any fuel savings, sad to say, wtih or without lucas ucl. Using MMO, my engine likes it alot! Much faster and way smoother start ups with MMO. I do not know if the MMO cleans as good as lucas UCL says it does though...
i Use lucas in the summer, and fall through winter, go wtih MMO.

I've got a Subaru Outback wagon.
It's got a "sack" on the fuel pump for a filter.
The parts guy told me I should run an injector cleaner through it about every 6 months since the filter is pretty much non-replaceable (unless the fuel pump goes out, then the new fuel pump will have the new filter).
I've got a bottle of Lucas in the garage. It says it an UCL + injector cleaner.
Is this the same thing this thread is about?
Is it a "snake oil" or no?

Please explain this phenomena.

I had similar results and like MMO better. I also think it does a better job cleaning. It's better all around IMO.

Start with the fuel pump - they like lube. Same for injector parts, valve guides, valve face sealing, and ring sealing. Any cleaning is a plus, as is better fuel burning characteristics.
Lucas is kinda high priced, but larger bottles are acceptable.

We may not feel a difference, but extra protection won't be felt.

+1
I have used seafoam ,lucas , tectron, krex, mmo, ether , acetone ,evinrude, and b-g fuel system cleaners for 20+ years. Million miles driven on many vehicles and not one fuel system problem, never changed a fuel filter , pump ,injector, etc.
I have never fouled a spark plug
I have found a 1+ mpg highway improvement on certain vehicles.
I do not use these products very often . maybe every 5-10 tank fills. I have 4-5 vehicles at any one time. Too expensive. I will use it in the first tank of a long trip combined with an oil change. I believe they work best on long highway trips. the oil changes May explain the mileage increase but sometimes it is without the oil change.
bought a quart bottle of lucas at an estate sale recently for .50 .
I use them mainly as an fuel line and injector cleaner with ucl being a secondary addition
If you do not believe the need for them ,then why do all motor companies such as Ford, Chrysler , g.m. , Evinrude, Honda , Harley , Yamaha , etc , etc, all sell their own versions and tell their technicians to use them.
I have a can of Evinrude fuel system cleaner i bought , that is from the 70's .It was sealed. I use it in my mowers. strong stuff but works great. There is a reason and a season for them . Used sparingly ,they are a great addition to a maintenance program.

well I'll bite I use Lucas UCL, my car was on lucas pretty much its whole long life (376,000). No rebuilds hmmmm oh yeah its not all just for the engines sake, how many fuel pumps has everybody put in leprosy as she became know for obvious reasons fell apart (died from cancer) with the original fuel pump......oh by the way it was just a lowly 1989 ford escort.

Thiers a season for the 2 MMO and lucal UCL, that is what i have discovered my self, but again, ive noticed zero mileage improvements, in fact, im burn more fuel! When using lucas! slightly more with MMO, but then again, i do alot, of stop n go traffic too. I do get very nice start ups using lucas, and has keep my eninge very quiet...
I like to use

in winter, compared to lucas. MMo gave me smooth and very quick start ups, in dead of january winters, where around mek, at night, its usualy 10 - 12 degrees F. Lucas wasnt as good..at least in my application. Being thiers a season for MMO and lucas, how many others here use MMO in winter and lucas in summer? reverse?

I had a slight increase in mpg with my 98 towncar bout 1 mpg, but same or maybe a bit less with my 97 continental using lucas. However mmo gives about 1 mpg gain on the continental.
