Here's a new car Americans can be proud of

Extended wheelbase might make it to taxi fleets like the long crown vic does in NYC...

Sure looks like an impala. (As the original Caprice was also a trim line alongside Impala.) Wonder how going RWD worked the floorpan etc.

And why show this in Canada?

I love the idea of a car that is built from the ground up for police duty. Hope this or something similar makes it to production.

This is basically a Chevy version of the Pontiac G8 (which is based on a RWD platform from Holden in Australia).

GM had to do this or risk losing law enforcement sales totally to Chrysler (Dodge Charger). In a true pursuit vehicle, the last thing you want is a FWD platform.

Gman is right...it's a Pontiac G-8 that is NOT an American car...this thread is ridiculous.

I thought the Crown Vic was being discontinued?

Either way, even the Charger is better than the Crown Vic in almost every way. This should be much better.

Are you sure? Is it actually a G8 or just built on the same platform?

It's a G8 rebadged as a Caprice. And I'm sure it will be built in Australia just like the G8.

If GM were smart (LOL) they would produce a civilian Caprice on this same platform--especially since they are killing Pontiac.

The original LAPD Pontiac G8 was a better looking cop car, imho, but I'm just glad to see the car coming back, as it should ensure a good supply of replacement parts for the G8 fleet.

I'm sure the cops will love driving these cars.

Glad you aren't steering the company. It would never fly in todays "fuel is expensive" society.

The public had the chance to buy the car, at a bargain price compared to what the Australians have to pay, but passed on it for the most part.

Maybe when the VF Commodore comes out, they will bring a few over as Buicks or Chevy's.

Fuel is pretty cheap right now, at least around here. It looks to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

Not everyone cares about the price of gas.

Just because it is cheap now doesn't mean it will always be and people are "fearful".

I buy a car based on its purpose and what I "Need" not how much fuel it uses, but others buy based on "Price" and fuel consumption which is just retarded if you ask me.

I've read that the G8 has been well-received and has been meeting the projected sales targets (unlike the GTO).

People expected the GTO to look like one of the famous GTOs of the past. Instead they got a car that looked the same as a Gran Prix coupe!

People don't have such expectations for the G8 styling.

That... And the G8 actually looks different from the average Pontiac.

Certainly not those that the taxpayers buy it. As a people hauler, RWD belongs in the dustbin of history.
