Harley Davidson Sportster Trans Fluid, what to use

What brand and weight of. Trans oil to use in a 2005 Sportster?

I was under the impression that the Sportster engine and transmission have a shared sump.

Pardon me for asking, which engine? (There are a bunch of Sportsters, not sure about 2005). What does HD recommend?

Whether it is an 883 or 1200 HD they will hold and using the same fluid. HD asks for their Formula+ trans fluid which is an extremely weak lubricant considering the abuse it take in the trans. The capacity is 32oz.

IDK much about the Forumla+ fluid, but replacing the previously used Sport-Trans fluid with M1 V-Twin 20W-50 works just fine.

I always used the HD Syn3 20w50 in my 2005 883 with fine results. The sump is shared with the trans & primary chaincase. Holds 1 quart. If you need a 2005 XL service manual on .pdf I know where there was one.
