Anyone know what the oil requirements for the new 2006 GLI might be? It has the new 2.0T. I should have the car in about a week or two and was wanting to go ahead and start stocking up.

Easy, VW 504/507 oil. Seriously, find out what the dealer uses and use the same thing at 1/2 the recommended OCI. Default would be Mobil 1 0w-40.

Mobil 1 0w-40 is 502.00/505.00,503.01 approved, but doesn't claim to be 504/507 approved. Am I missing something here?

It's looking as if GC is going to be the way to go. If I can't find an oil with the VW 504.00 spec here in the US I will use GC. I don't think they could void the warranty for using it.

VW 504/507 is a 5w-40 and mid-range sulphated ash. It does not seem too stringent a requirment. Amother oil I'd look at is BMW 0w-40, aka Castrol Formula RS...if I only had one car to worry about. There is always GC, Gold GC.

ELF offers VW 504/507 approved "low SAP" oil in the U.S. now. As far as I know, they are the only one. You might want to try Elf Solaris LLX 5w-30 It is very expensive though. By the way, the product data sheet indicates that TBN is only 5.8.
Do all "low SAP" lubricants (like BMW LL-04 and MB 229.31) have low TBN number?

I am wondering what VW/Audi dealers are preparing for the latest VW 504/507 spec.

One thing for sure, oil brand varieties in the U.S sucks big time, can you use anything else beside Mobil1? Mobil1 this Mobil1 that, boring...

I live in a third world country and one oil specialist store stocks every conceivable brands, Elf Solaris? Just walk in the store, get a galloon and done with it, no opening the web, no ordering online and waiting at home for the UPS guy that always shows up while you are at work.

Yeah I think it's because the automakers oil requirements are kind of low here in the states. They don't want your car to last forever so you will come back and buy another in a few years.

Don't use anything other than synthetic in a turbo engine. Especially a VW engine.

Someone here has to have a new Jetta with the 2.0T in it. Maybe they can check the owner's manual for you? Help a guy out people.

I heard that! I live in the U.S from 1993 up to 2002 so almost a decade. I first got the Camaro in 1993,loved that car in the first 2 years, it was down hill after that, it was alwasy making some kind of ticking, knocking noise that you can't get rid of. Sold it in 1996 got a VW Golf, much better and that Golf was as tough as nails! Then I got 98 Mer C230 that car sucked but surprisingly reliable, got a dodge neon(don't ask why, blew the engine in 5 years), then a CRV(that car rocked, reliablity at it's best) no more german or american cars for me, hate to admit it but Japanese and Pristine restored hot rod such as the camaro, dodge charger, pontiac are the only way to go

VW 504 supersedes and replaces VW 502, 503.01, 505.01, and 501.01.

The 2.0T VW and Audi motors should be able to use any (not VW 501.01) of the above oils without problems. I would opt for a VW 502 oil.

I currently use Mobil 1 0W-40 in my 2001 1.8T. Would there be any benefit to changing to a 504/507 oil? I concur with the other posts bemoaning the lack of availability of world class oils in the U.S., which is why I generally just stick with Mobil 1, which I can buy at my local Kragen's, sometimes on sale at $4/qt.

Buy the oil from the dealer... With a little knowledge frm on here, youll know if theyre selling you junk or whatnot... But with a new engine in a new car, which might have bugs of one sort or another (especially since its a VW)... dot all of your i's and cross all your t's. Chances are it will be a GC/BC tpe equivalent.

If you want something tough, and arent too worried, Id bet that amsoil 5w-40 would do really good... Then again, it comesback to the certifications thing, which, again, if youre not worried...
