Suzuki calls for a 10W-40 weight oil in my late model GSX-R750.

I have been running 10W-40 syn for a while but this last time I gave 20W-50 syn a try. The motor was noticeable quieter using the heavier weight oil.

I was told that using a heavier weight oil can cause slower revving, higher temps and is not the best option and I should stick with what the manufacture recommends.

Is this true or is 20W-50 fine and I should not be concerned?

Thanks

20w50 will rev slightly slower than 10w40.
unless your last name is Mladin or Rossi i dont think you will be able to tell.

higher temps? hmmmm that is interesting.

my yz turns almost the same rpms. i've run sae50 in it. no worries. with 20w50 your gearbox will love you.

Higher temps make sense with thicker oil, all else being equal.

The more viscous oil takes more work to shear so more work is put into the oil and raises the oil temperature. Whether it raises it enough to notice is another topic.

You could also use Mobil1 15w50 or Royal Purle 20w50 as both will shear to a 40w in no time at all. (500 miles)

I have been reading allot in the forum and while you are joking what you are saying seems to be so true with lot's of oils.
