Bike is on sale @ the ***** Sporting Goods. Weigh about 240.

Bike is an 18 inch frame size which I like too.

Mainly a street rider in the local neighborhood.

Will swap seats if I buy it.

Ride it until the knobs of the tires wear down. Then get some street slicks. You can get them with a little bit of knobbies on them. But more slick than what comes on the bike.

Also some of the tires you can buy have higher pressures which would probably be better for you being a bigger guy. Less rolling resistance.

You might want to check out whether that fork has an air spring or a coil spring. If it's coil, you will need to upgrade the spring for it to work correctly... they usually come with springs for people in the 150-175 pound range.

If it's air, then no problem.

Why switch from your current ride? A mountain bike will not be as comfortable as your Trek. Just curious why you want to switch...

Have read several articles that the bike has a very good frame and will make some modifications over a period of time.

This bike for the price, sounds like a good platform for building on?

I have a 2008 Response Comp, and I like it just fine. I don't ride on the roads, however, so couldn't tell you about that.
I got it from a bike shop and paid considerably more than $299 for it.
