help with wireless connection

i had to do a restore on my daughters laptop.

installed operating system cd(xp)
everything ran fine(even wireless) but it did not uninstall old programs

so her boyfriend reformatted the HD and reinstalled the operating system software and application /drivers cd

wireless has been very inconsistent since then
mostly not working

I have reinstalled the op sys 3 times along with app and drivers
still does not work

online with tech support, they blamed my router specs, so i shut off security and it still does not work

I installed a usb wireless device that I use in my other laptop,
and that does not work

it works fine plugged into the modem, all other wireless devices in the house work perfect

any help appreciated

installed the wrong driver, try again from the laptop manufacturer's site, or an older version of the driver.

Most likely there is an updated driver that needs to be installed. Sometimes these are rolled out in Windows Updates too. Have you installed all the pertinent service packs too? Many of these have networking fixes built in. Service Pack 2 for XP was a big step forward for Windows and Wi-Fi.

Drove me nuts for 4 days. ended up being a protocol that needed to be disabled. Where it came from
