VW 504 and 507

Hi Guys.
Can we use VW 504 or/and 507 rated engine oils in older VW and other automobiles such as Toyota's and Honda's?

VW 504/507 may be used in Audi vehicles as a substitute for

1. if not equipped for Long-Life Service:
VW 502
VW 503
VW 503.01
VW 505
VW 505.01 (RS6 requires VW 505.01)


2. if equipped for LongLife Service:

VW 503.01
VW 503
VW 506
VW506.01

Audi specifically recommends Castrol SLX LongLife III (VW 504/507)


VW allows VW 504/507 with only a few exceptions:

- all 3-, 4-, 5-, 6- cylinder Diesel engines with DPF (Diesel particle filter) require VW 505.01
- the R5-,V-10 TDI PD engine, with or without DPF requires VW 506.01




VW spec oil in a Japanese engine may cause an allergic reaction.

If your Japanese engine requires a mid or low SAPS* oil, VW 504/507 should work fine.






* I believe, but am not sure, VW 504/507 is somewhere between a mid and a low SAPS oil. Someone here may know for sure.

If you can use API SM engine oils in Japanese cars then I assume you can use mid SAPS engine oils? Correct? I am not sure...

504/507 is a Low SAPS oil
the RS6 requires 503.01 oil. However for the US market, 505.01 was chosen because the availability of 505.01 due to the Pumpe Duse TDI's

All of the above listed info is from the Audi and VW oil bulletins released in Germany for the German market. The Audi oil bulletin clearly states the RS6 requires VW 505.01 if not equipped for Long-Life Service. I have a scan of the bulletin if you need to see it for yourself.
