Part of a fun study I am doing. How many have a daily use pickup, that is used like a pickup, not just a big family car, that has 200,000 or more miles, AND, has never had anything but 30 grade oil. Whether it was/is 0W/5W/10W or straight 30, conventional, blend or full synthetic doesn't matter as long as it has/had 200,000 miles. Feel free to make any comments about your oil of choice.

My sons 91 Ford Ranger 325,000 miles all on M1 10-30 in engine.M1 ATF in 5 spd gear box, and M1 75-90 lube in diff. all with no problems. Valve covers have been off and the engine is still very clean through oil fill hole. It uses a qt. every 3500 miles since day one. 10,000 OCIs.

My old man has a 1995 Ford F350 Powerstroke with 275k+ miles. Has never seen anything but straight 30W AmsOil, with the exception of a short stint with 5W-30 AmsOil Diesel oil. He says it was using some oil with the 5W-30, and switched back to the 30W so he doesn't have to check it as often. He had 30W in it up to 100k or so, and changed to the 5W-30 after having to have the heating grid in the engine replaced. He ran that to about 130k, and changed to 30W.

The times I mentioned above were the only times it saw oil changes. Yes, he is running the same oil today at 275k+ miles that he installed at 130k. He has the AmsOil bypass system on it, and takes oil samples whenever he "feels like it", which comes out to every 6-8 months.

1978 F250 just passed 210k using mostly Qs 10w-30 then 5w-30.

1996 Chevy C1500 with 4.3l V6 over 250k with Halvoline and Valvoline 5w-30 mostly.

1982 Toyota SR5 with 300k mostly Halvoline and Valvoline 10w-30 and then 5w-30.

i guess it looks like the big 3 can make a [censored] good engine according to these posts...145k on same oil in a ford powerstroke diesel( i think) ..holy s---!

79 Chevy Scottsdale 350 3/4 ton - well over 300k

85 Toyota SR5 4-cylinder - went over 200k, blew due to headgasket failure, which is common on this engine.

'91 Isuzu Rodeo 3.1L GM engine - 185k

'97 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L V6 Isuzu engine - currently at 189k running very strong

All of these trucks were brought up on Havoline 10w-30

83 SILVERADO 204,983 miles, been my Daily Driver since 6/83,305 Pennz 10/30,20/50/30wt FRAM PH373 2 qt oil filter

Many US manufacturers build durable engines.

Tell me about interior bits and pieces, AC systems, electronics, and smog devices made by US manufacturers that are durable....

Heck, the same thing can be said for many German and Japanese cars.

F-150, Super Duty and Explorer interiors are all very durable. The (awful and spartan) interior in my '88 F-250 was next to invincible.

My '98 Jeep GC 5.9 magnum V8 has 178k with dino every 4k the 1st 65k of its life, and Mobil-1 from then on. It was retired back in August as a daily driver.

My dad's old '95 GC 5.2 magnum V8 had "house oil" dino every 7500k from 0 - 200k. Then it began using oil and it started getting dino every 3k until it was sold still going strong at 259k...

American iron is good stuff.

My 98 F150 is at 200K on M1 10-30 since new. With one oil change of M1 5-40 TDT (because I was out of 10-30).

It runs like new, does not consume any oil and is very quiet.

Not a pickup, but has seen quite a lot of severe duty:

1998 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L V-6

225,000 miles, mostly 5w-30 Pennzoil but more recently, whatever's on sale in 5w-30 winter/10w-30 summer.

Motor was torn down around 150,000 for the intake gaskets - spotless inside.

Everything else is falling apart around the engine though!

Not mine, my father in law

94 Silverado 3500 dually

stock 454, moderate/heavy towing 38' goosneck 5th-wheel

238,000 original motor, 4th tranny

OCIs every 3000 miles on whatever is on sale, 5 or 10W-30 (dino). Fram or AC Delco filters, whatever is nearest at the time of service.

Gets driven during week. Drives wifes Equinox on the weekends.

How'd the modular like the TDT?

84 S10 2.8 V6 - 310,000 (rebuilt at 180,000)- Pennzoil 10w30 until 230,000 miles, then whatever was on sale in a 5w30. 6,000 OCI.

Any others, speak up. I am especially interested in push-rod v6 and v8 engines that are, relatively speaking, low RPM and possible hard workers.

Friends 1994 Chevy 1500/350- 285K miles with only Dino oil, 3-5K.

Brother's 1992 Ford F150- 252K miles with Dino oil and didn't have an oil change for 50K miles(200K until he sold it), but somehow still ran fine, great pickup.
