If Shearing thins oil and Oxidation thickens oil do they sort of so a balancing act thru the life of the oil so it stays in grade?

No. Staying in grade isn't good enough. Oxidized oil is just thin sludge (and gets thick with more service). Even if the viscosity stays in grade, the protection ability isn't there.

Better oil neither shears nor oxidizes in any reasonable time. My Schaeffer syn-blend oil in 10,000 miles in my Volvo turbo stays in grade with about 2% oxidation.
