Yet another... our 96 MB E300D. Ithas just under 200k at this change. Yes, we skipped a few UOAs in between.

Anyway, a bit disapointing... soot seems up and thus wear is up a bit too. No LC, #132 or similar used here. Apparently there was a fair amount of stop and go traffic driving on this interval... as well as winter driving. It still returns between 32-36 MPG, with a high of 38.

Hi,
JHZR2 - This is an excellent report. The uptake rate for wear metals is outstanding, the TBN is great and viscosity has been consistent. IMO it is always a good idea to obtain a TAN for diesel engines

This lubricant will handle soot at a much greater level than most lubricants and in any engine family too

Your report is excellent and IMO the lubricant could have remained there much longer

That is the goal... its more or less only a highway car, so Im hoping to do over a year, maybe 20k miles next...

Hi,
JHZR2 - The UOAs from my Porsche 32v V8 (M28 engine) were consistently indicating a two year OCI was quite feasible - almost regardless of the distance

The greatest distance I went in one OC1 (1 year) was around 13k miles - I calculated that the lubricant was capable of another period about the same before changing

This was consistent over many OCIs and is the same with my
Boxster

In my Series 60 Detroits in City work I could only get around 12 months (40kkms) due to soot contamination (4%)

Doug Hillary,

What did you use as a condemnation limit for TAN? I've heard it is a good rule of thumb to change out the oil when the TAN/TBN "equalize", (i.e, approach the same number), but would like to know what you used for limits.

REDDOG - The highest TAN (one truck) was 7 and it's lowest TBN (D4739) was 2

The average of all TANs was 6 and the lowest TBN was 3

Detroit Diesel's condemnation limits are 1 (D4739) or 1/3rd of new lubricant. No TAN is given. Delvac 1 5W-40 had a TBN of around 11

I used 1 as my "base line" TBN (and 8 for TAN) - however the limits for Soot or Iron were always reached first even when using a centrifuge cleaner

I always found that by getting both TAN and TBN I could detect some "irregularities" perhaps coming from the Labs I used (Mobil and Castrol)
