Sure i may have only Euro cars in the "stable" now, I wouldn't think twice about purchasing some of Ford's or GM's products.
My 97 Escort could have easily made it to 300,000kms on oil changes (with 20,000km/yearly OCI's) and tire rotations alone.

...Chrysler OTOH...I'm a little more skeptical of.

Ford quality was on the rise in the early 90s until Jack (the "Knife") Nasser came in and slashed costs. This made the bottom line look excellent to his high-ups in Ford. Employees at Ford were enjoying a number of bonus handouts in that era. Unfortunately, this plan borrowed off the good reputation of Ford and future quality, which - as we saw - tanked afterward. The best decision Bill Ford made was to axe Nasser from the company.

I can only hope that the good reputation for quality that Ford has recently developed doesn't get abused amd taken advantage of again.

I was a diehard Ford man for my first 10 years of driving. Only drove them and nothing else. My family had 7 Fords when there were still 3 generations living and driving. 4 Thunderbirds (86, 89, 97, 97), 2 mustangs (90, 04 Mach1), and a 93 F150]. There are now no Fords in the family. Of the 7, only the 04 Mac 1 had no mechanical problems. The other Mustang and 1 of the 97 TBirds were light on problems. But the other 3 Birds and the F150 were in near constant repair. Quality just wasn't there sadly.

I still kinda miss my Bird though. Family [2 generations now, RIP Graddad] now has 2 Subaru's and a Dodge Ram.

The irony of that ad is that it shows a Ford and they're the only one of the big 3 that isn't taking the money. Regardless, it's a funny, well-done spoof ad.

I call that the vindictive Import Fanboy ignorance......

I don't see any cup in American Honda's hand.

Honda America doesn't need a cup. The Japanese government would never let them go without. Just like they funded the Prius development....

That article is old.

Here's the more recent info:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28159257/

The link more recent you provide has the exact same information... Almost verbatim, but without a deadline for profitability:

"Ford wants to set up a $9 billion long-term line of credit from the government but would use it only if the U.S. auto market worsens or fails to recover. The company has said it has enough borrowed money to make it through 2009 without government help."

I say their forecast is extremely optimistic. I give them 6 months before we have to pony up the alms. However, even in the best-case, we'll still be paying out come 2010...

But the loan has not been setup, and they are not desperate for it. It is a completely different request from what GM and Chrysler want, which is money, lots of it, NOW!

If one of the other two tanks, Ford will take up the market share and be just fine. That's likely what they are banking on.

I think my link presents Ford's position with a bit more clarity. Which is why I provided it. They are not in the same boat as the other two.
