You doubt the word of Doug. (Unbeliever, for first offence, you're lucky you have been spared 40 lashes save 1)

In my discussions with Mobil Techline Australia, they are quite plain upfront and tell you what is PAO or G3 syns.

I don't know what "group" Castrol Syntec 5W40 falls into, but it meets VW 502/505 specs, along with other European specs. I get it at Autozone....usually on sale for 5qts with a K&N or Mobil 1 filter for $26-$29.
