I noticed this on the Redline site:

D6 ATF

Recommended where the latest Dexron-VI is required, as well as where Ford Mercon SP, Toyota WS and Mercedes Benz NAG-2 fluids are specified, Red Line D6 ATF satisfies the requirements for many of the latest automatic transmissions that require consistent, low-viscosity fluids that are shear-stable.
It provides the best low-temperature shiftability in automatic and manual transmissions which require ATFs. Also satisfies API 70W/75W GL-4 gear requirements

• Most shear stable for consistent operation
• Excellent low-temperature shiftability

Has anyone tried it in a Toy?

I wouldn't use it. You can get WS for less than $7/quart at most dealerships.

WS is lifetime fill. First scheduled inspection is at 100,000 miles.

Lifetime = until transmission failure. Time to buy a new Toy.

I don't believe in lifetime fluids.

I don't believe in lifetime fluids either. I think I paid under $6 a quart at my local Toyota dealer for WS.

At that price I'll stick with the OEM until other folks have tried the new RedLine. Note that I've got nothing against RedLine, I just don't want to be the first guy who tries it. :)

thanks,

Most OEMs target the service life of their units to be 150,000 miles. Some of them design them to last longer. For example, the new GM 6-speed automatics have a target service life of 200,000 miles.

A lot of these fluids can outlast the transmission itself.

I plan on doing a drain via the drain plug every 25,000 miles. Maybe I'll try this when the time rolls around.

GM said that in my dad's Pontiac G6 4AT, the Dexron VI fluid was lifetime. I did a pan drop and fill, and the G6 shifted gears much more smoothly.

ATF is better than what is used to be, but it isn't invincible.

Over at the Prius site there are many UOA done on Toyota WS ATF fluid. Toyota states that WS is good for 100,000 miles in the Prius, but the UOAs show that the fluid has a good amount of wear metals and has sheared down fairly quickly so many are changing far earlier.

I choose to go with the Toyota WS over the Redline D6 because of a viscosity mismatch. The Redline D6 is thicker than the WS. Redline states that D6 will start at 100C cSt of 6.4 and shear down to no more than 6.1. Toyota WS starts at 5.6 or so and often shears down to 4.9 or less in a modest amount of mileage. In order to keep the fuel economy up in the Prius, I choose the WS over the Redline D6 - the Redline just doesn't seem to be a good substitute for WS which is one of the very thinnest ATF's in use, at least from what I have seen.

Exactly, I have DEXVI in my truck and will flush every 50k now. I used to flush every 30k with DEXIII. My 2 toyo transmissions will get regular drain fills. The T-IV gets a drain fill every 15-20k and the WS will get flushed every 50k. Cheap insurance IMO.

I use the D4 in a T-IV application and it shifts much better now. There are several Toyota owners on this forum who have used the D6 with success. I have a 06 tacoma but dont use D6 because its a company leased vehicle. 100,000 mile ATF service is what keeps the dealers rich. I change mine every 30K.
