doing this for the last 3-4 days; finds update, then when i say, install it, THIS comes up:

Never seen that before. You may have to remove and reinstall it.

a) you need to uninstall, then reinstall the program

You should first uninstall using the AVG uninstall. Then do an AVG search and delete any leftovers. Then reinstall.

just uninstalled using AVG uninstall, reinstalled with newly downloaded installer --> seems fine now.

I think so. Avira is arguably the best antivirus out there. By far has the best heuristics and tests better than any other product at http://www.av-comparatives.org/

hm..it does have better detection rates, but i keep seeing that Avira doesn't scan emails/IM, and Avast (and AVG even) does it...
It will scan all that stuff through the file scanner.

can you explain that a bit? sorry, I'm not very knowledgeable.
does that mean that Avira will scan them anyway (or perhaps i have to open it 1st whereas AVG/avast scans it BEFORE opening? I read something like that on the web)
