The Sierra Club and the U.S. Forest Service were presenting an alternative to Wyoming ranchers for controlling the coyote population.
It seems that after years of the ranchers using the tried and true methods of shooting and/or trapping the predators, the wild life conservationists had a 'more humane' solution.

What they proposed was for the animals to be captured alive; the males would then be castrated and let loose again. Therefore the population would be controlled. This was ACTUALLY proposed to the Wyoming Wool and Sheep Grower's Association by the Sierra Club and the USFS.

All of the ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes. Finally, an old boy in the back of the conference room stood up, tipped his hat back and said, 'Son, I don't think you understand our problem. Those coyotes ain't [censored]' our sheep - they’re eatin' 'em!”

You should have been there to hear the roar of laughter.

My brother once had a T shirt of Willee Coyote holding the roadrunner by the neck, doing the deed, and saying "Well I finally caught you".

Dirty Pierre had the best T-Shirts.

other examples were the "Chernobyl Fried Chicken Kiev"..."now available in the nuclear family pack"

That would work. Then you could get rid of the coyotes, sheep, and half the cattle.

Wolves haven't don't a great deal of cattle or sheep killing since they've been reintroduced to parts of the west. If they have elk, deer and moose, they prefer to leave human's animals alone.
Since they've been back in Yellowstone, the Elk population has been stabilized and the ecosystem as a whole is healthier thatn without wolves.

There are coyotes in the suburbs of Chicago now, and even found in the city.
A mountain lion was recently killed in Chicago - they said they are also coming back and he was simply increasing his range.

.
Is that why the ranchers are shooting the wolves on site?
