Point well taken, but what about the possibility that an oil produces better results in some applications even if another oil " uses a better additive package and a better VI improver than Chevron or Mobil"...?
 
This happens on a regular basis. Some oils perform better in certain engines under certain applications. I am a big supporter of Pennzoil and Shell products and they have always worked above my expectations in my applications. If I had an application where those oils did not perform for me, I would find an oil that did.
