What should motor oil smell like?

Pennzoil hmv sure does have a strong plastic smell. The wife helped me with Motorcraft and Castrol Syntec Blend because my nose doesn't seem to be working after the Pennzoil....

Motorcraft - vegetable oil smoking on the stove
Syntec Blend - virgin baby wipes

And the Quaker State in my truck engine smells like charcoal starter.

I guess I should have included in my original question: "what should motor oil smell like?"...after it's been in service for a while?

A: Pretty much like "motor oil" (plenty of variations on this, from gummi bears to an undefinable, unpleasant "chemical" smell), so long as it doesn't smell overly burnt...or of diesel fuel...or of gasoline...or of "putrid rotten-cheese" (fungal contamination, believe it or not!). But "dog farts" or "Rosanne Barr" odors are also perfectly acceptable.

Use motor oil...I think they all smell like gasoline after some use....regardless of brand use.
