I guess the key word here is "strain" if he would just put fresh fuel in, rather than the flushed and strained fuel you may be good to go.

Frankly I wouldn't put anything in at this point. Get good fresh fuel in, flush the lines, new filter - and start the car. Make sure it runs reasonably well for a few hundred miles - then hit it hard with a cocktail of cleaners. Good and strong. Some guys will call me a redneck in this department, but I sometimes mix the OTC fuel system cleaners mentioned here and put them in with only a few gallons of gas in the tank. Then drive for a bit to let the stuff work. Finally refill the tank and drive some more. Lastly do a strong 2X dose of Amsoil PI. Drive until near "E". Refill...drive that tank down. FINALLY - change the oil, oil filter and fuel filter. Your fuel system will be clean and worry free.
