comp doesn't recognise flashdrive in usb..

Go to adminisrative tools, then computer management and finally disk management. From there, you would see if your drive even shows up in there. If it does, then you might need to give it a drive letter before you can see it inside of the XP environment. Let me know if this helps.
 
I would unplug the flash drive, remove the USB device from the control panel/device manager and reboot. Upon reboot, XP will install the drivers for the USB device and once that is done, you can plug the flash drive back in and see if XP picks it up.

Sounds like you may have recently reinstalled Windows XP Home?

You will need to download and install the service packs for it. That should take care of your problem.
