I blew a hose on my Boss V plow. I have been using Boss Oil($4.75/Qt) but would like to know if there is a less expensive brand that will work as well. I really don't understand how to read the label on the Boss oil. It is called Hi Performance Multi Vis 15HVI-FM Zinc Free.

The temps in NE MN can hit -40 so I do need something that will take the cold. Thanks for your help.

It is a VERY high VI ISO 15 Non Zinc Hydraulic oil.

Exxon had/has one called Univis J-13 it is LOW pour point and high VI I do not think the non zinc part on the BOSS oil is a big deal more for "the enviroment".

Look for the Exxon stuff or a High VI, low pour point ISO 15 hydraulic oil.

The key being a low pour point. Most majors and maybe amsoil make one.

the MSDS spec that pablo posted looks like this

Vis @40 14-16
Vis @ 100C 5.1
VI would be 320 or so
Pour point looks like
Old Mil Spec Mil-H-5606 will be a drop in.

Clicky here: Amsoil AW Hydraulic Oils Scroll down and look at AWF ISO 15 or even AWG ISO 22, AMSOIL Synthetic AW Series Antiwear Hydraulic Oils

Thanks for all your help. I'm sorry it took me so long to find this great site. Lots of good information on oil, tires and general car care.
