Right on, Subaru 1.8L, 2.2L, and 2.5L are all timing belts. You can find the suggested replacement intervals at http://www.subaru.com/owners/schedules/index.jsp
Most models are 105 months/105,000 mile replacement interval. Some of the mid 90's 2.2L's had 60 month/60,000 mile replacement interval depending on whether it was Calif. emissions or not.

Yes the 6-cyl 3.0L and new 3.6L having timing chains with no set replacement interval.

2.2L was non-interference up to and including '96.
2.5L dohc and sohc are all interference ('96 dohc might be non interference piston to valve).

Probably Subaru's biggest stigma has been the head gasket issues of the 2.5L dohc (phase I) (used '96-'98 or '99 depending on model), which some of those got an internal exhaust blowing in to coolant leak. Some 2.5L phase II (sohc) from '99-00 to ~02 developed an external head gasket dripping leak at the LH head rear. Subaru offered an extended head gasket warranty on certain phase II if you had some conditioner put in under bulletin.
