Fuel Cleaners, why is it never recommended?

my taco fuel filter is a lifetime filter also. i replaced it at 80k miles. its located under the driver seat. if you can replace them, then do it.

to be honest, you're wasting big time money if you do that. fuel is good as it is. the use of cleaner once or twice a year is only for preventive maintenance for those really care about their car performance.

And yet, the dealer has fuel system cleaner available in the parts department.


The GM stuff is Techron Plus relabeled. Even use the same bottle.

I don't agree. I think fuel is degrading (or has degraded) in terms of cleanliness. Now some injector designs may be less effected ..but mine sure do notice the introduction of a cleaning agent ..and I'm, more often than not, plagued with fuel content in UOA.

I think one reason is that automakers are concerned about the perceived Total Cost of Ownership. If they did recommend fuel injector cleaners at regular intervals, it would be factored into the TCO figures.

Of course, fuel injector cleaner companies will say whatever they can to get you to buy their product, with or without merit.
