Xerox vs HP All-In-One printers

I have an all-in-one HP and so far it has been a reliable item (have had it for 4-5 years or so). But the driver is not the best written code. I don't know how well written the new ones are.

I can't comment on Xerox printers as I have never used one.

The HP in your link has a higher resolution. The Xerox is USB 1.1 but the HP is USB 2.0.

Overall, the Xerox features seem to be one generation behind the HP.

If you buy one of the cheaper models buy if from some place locally that will give you good service because you will need it. You will need more than the help desk Indians. I could not get through to the person I was talking to that my All-In-One was dead. He kept telling me to scroll down through the menu and a given selection. I kept repeating that it was plugged in but was not responding and yes the plug was ok. He then said if it's not on you must start with first selection in the menu. I asked for a supervisor and he had the same script to read to me. This went on for 4 phone calls. Then with my dead printer I got a follow up call to ask me if I was completely satisfied with the service I received. I asked for an RMA number and was turned over to a help desk person that asked me to turn on my printer to figure out the problem and away we went with the same circle-jerk. I dumped it and bought a Brother MFC 7420 and have been completely satisfied. I used the HP for target practice with my home defense shotgun.

I try to avoid HP all in one printers as much as possible. My grandma had one. It would always suck 3-6 pages at a time and jam up or, sit there and refuse to try to print at all. We ended up just loading it with one fresh page at a time. Even then it would sometimes crumple the paper somehow and jam. My dad has two. Has them plugged in at the same time because they are such garbage. In case one didn't work the other might. Of course these are not the latest ones or ones that expensive.. Just the consumer level models. I still would only take a new one if it was given to me.

Sounds like the paper setting may have been set for envelopes?

I have 6 HP printers, 3 being the All-in-One variety. The all-in-one printers are prone to feed too many sheets of paper. I have found using about 20 sheets of HP Paper and gently putting the stack of paper in until it stops has resolved the problem (unless someone else shoves a stack of paper too far). I had a Xerox All-in-One that needed repair. It was a great machine until I plugged it into the power strip wrong. Only problem was it was inkjet and they stopped selling them and the ink was not readily available. But with the laser that may not be a problem.

I have an entry level HP all-in-one. Works great. My previous printer was an HP and they replaced it once due to the first one not feeding paper that well, it has worked great for the last 5 years since. I think I've had 4 HP printers total plus a photo scanner and all have been great. The one that needed a warranty replacement was bought at Sam's. It seems like most things I buy at Sam's quit working before the warranty is up.

NJC, I prefer the Canon MP6xx/MP8xx series of all in one printers. HP's have proved to be bad news given the several we've had, then escorted them to the nearest garbage receptacle.

Can't speak on Xerox products in this range as I've never used them.

HP used to build like a tank but is not anymore. I used to have HP printers that last 4-6 years on weekly if not daily cycles, but now I am getting feeder problems after a month or 2.

Xerox entry level products are re-badge from others. I know their entry level laser are re-badge from Samsung. That's how they stay cheap (but still cost more than Samsung). Not sure about the all in one.

Thanks TNS - I had a look at them but I need a flat deck for book photocopying.

Unfortunately, my local Costco doesn't even carry the 2 printers I'm interested in.

It would be nice to have a look at them first.
