BHT is butylated hydroxytoluene - a preservative that operates by blocking self-catalyzing oxidation of unsaturated organics by atmospheric oxygen.
What I meant by "something in common" is that it's about preservation and not about lubrication.

BHT os Ok for low temp applications but "boils' off at high temp no good for a PCMO, gear maybe.

OK, that BHT; yes, an antioxidant used in packaging materials such as cereal box bags, etc.
