2003 Jaguar X-type. 2.5L v6 with 65,000 miles. I was wondering what is the absolute best oil I can buy for my car. Also if you can give a cheaper 2nd alternative that would be great too. Thanks everyone this is my first post!

Define your criteria for "best". That will narrow your options.

In the absence of that, any name-brand synthetic 5w30, changed at factory recommended intervals would be "best", according to my criteria (which is 100% un-scientific).

My recommendation for a cheaper 2nd choice is Motorcraft 5w30.

There is no single test or group of tests that proves one oil is better than another oil, even if there was a definition of "better".

There are many good oils and many people have picked a "best" oil for themselves.

What are you driving habits, mileage and are you going to keep the car?

I have a S-type and owners manuel reccomends anything from 5w30 to 10w40 depending on temp.

I have used:
GC 0w30(syn)
amsoil 5w30 (syn)
havoline 5w20 (syn, dino)
valvoline 5w30(dino)
maxlife 5w20 (blend)
76 pure 5w40(syn)

I am trying PP next. I noticed that the 20w oils gave the most engine and throttle response.
