Hi.

My brother got a Hyundai 07' Azera. This time is the first time to change engine oil and filter. He want to put the nice oil and filter in for the car. Any suggestion for the car except for Amsoil should be ordered?

Thanks.

Amsoil is not required.

Any M1, Castrol , or Pennzoil Platinum synthetic will work fine. Just don't use a Fram oil filter.

It takes 5w20, right?
Use any SL or SM 5w20 or 0w20 and expect good results.

When replacing the filter, ALWAYS replace the O-rings and check to see that they are seated properly. Many Hyundai V-6 engines have low oil pressure problems when that isn't done.

Not sure what you mean by your last question. Which engine is it?

Is the O ring seperated on the filter? The filter is used including the O ring isn' it? And which filters do you recommand to me because I used to buy fram because of a cheap price at the walmart?

I am sorry for your brother.

The cost of Amzoil oil will exceed the price of the vehicle.

I buy NAPA filters that are made by Wix. Wix makes the most complete kits for filters that require extra things.

You can also buy Carquest filters, they are made by Wix.

I've got a 2007 Santa Fe - I think it might be the same engine. I have used a Wix and Fram filter on it so far. Both filters look the same and both were marked "Made in Korea"

BTW - if you haven't look at Hyundai lately - they are not the same car as a few years ago. They have come a long way in the quality dept. Looked at similar offerings from Toyota and Honda and the Santa Fe was the best all round deal.

You should see the look on most BMW and Lexus owners faces when my Azera blows past them in a stop light race.

I would try to discover what the Factory Fill is and try to use that or something as close to that as possible for atleast 20 thousand miles. This is just a rule of thumb that I try to follow on brand new cars because of the break-in process and it's paramount importance. I picked 20 thousand miles but you can take it to 30 thousand as I firmly feel break-in happens way beyond what the manual states (1.e 600 miles, 1000 miles etc) and in fact lasts much longer.

If you want my recommendation, I would use Motorcraft in what is it, 5w-20 or 5w-30 for the Azera. OR try the oil I use below.. which is made by CP and is similar in performance and FE..that is if you can find it since it is not OTC. I have gotten better FE from using these blends I jsut mentioned then full synthetics and I doubt the so called better protection that full synthetics offer for everyday driving use is that much more significant..really doubt it..

It blows past them at the lights because the brakes don't work

blueiedgod - you've made two statements here making fun of somebody else's purchase, which they purchased with hard-earned money. If you aren't going to say something useful, don't say anything at all.

As for the Azera - is that the 3.5 or the 3.8? I have the 3.5 in my Sedona and I'm using 5W-40 in it from Farm and Fleet. The 10W-40 got chewed up pretty quickly. As for filters, the 3.5 takes the same filters as my '02 Accord V6 which is a fairly common filter. I rather prefer the K&N oil filters but have used several. I'll probably be sticking with K&N - the Fram filters are terrible. I've also used Wix and NAPA Gold (good!).

In another few months I hope to do another oil analysis through Terry Dyson (he's awesome) and we'll see how the engine is doing with this 5W-40. I may end up using synth or synth blend in which case I'll probably look hard at Valvoline MaxLife - it's got an awesome additive package.

If you have the 3.8, then my comments don't directly apply, however the K&N oil filters really are pretty outstanding.

You can't go wrong with Amsoil filters or Oil, it's really quite top notch stuff - but a bit pricey for my wallet.

Lastly, as far as quality and aesthetics are concerned, I've found the latest Kia (and Hyundai) designs to be very eye pleasing and in most ways every bit as good as the Hondas and Toyotas out there. I think Kia has a bit to go in some areas but I would look at Kia (or possibly Hyundai) for my next vehicle.

I should also note that our '03 Kia Sedona (V6, bought used) has been a lot less trouble then our '02 Honda Accord V6 bought new.

You are doing the oil/filter change your self-correct? I'd use OEM filters for the first time or two just in-case you might be required to return to the dealer for engine issues (saves explaining why non OEM parts on engine). I would then use Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum (WalMarts for $19.97 & $22.xx respectively for a 5 quart jug) and down the road , switch to Purolater PureOne or WIX (NAPA Gold) oil filters. Then follow the owners manual for change interval. With either of the oil I mentioned you can easily go to the manuals recommendation or longer.

One thing I should note. My brother has a Hyundai Elantra GT. He ran Mobil-1 for the last 20-30K miles and recently switched to Pennzoil Platinum. He feels the PP is much quieter in use and cleaner at OC than the Mobil-1. He also really likes both the OEM filter and the K&N - the Fram filters were noisy - bad anti-drainback or something? Who knows.

I'm not a fan of Mobil-1 but Valvoline MaxLife or Pennzoil Platinum I think are great choices.

I'd probably run whatever viscosity they recommend - I think all newer Kia stuff uses 5W-20 or 5W-30 year 'round.
