^ VW's always seem to be terrible.. My Jeep isn't too far off though.. I think they changed the plastic formulation on the later models thankfully. I am about due for a wet sanding treatment myself.

I think the biggest tip off that the key is off, is the occasional or constant pull rope trying to yank back and rip the cord out of your hand.Power might seem to be down from usual.,,

I think post 96 (to present) they improved the filter so it has a protruding spout and can't fall out. I changed my 95 trans to the new pan and filter. The older filters had no spout coming out or dimple in the pan. There was nothing preventing them

Most likely they are either copying the Osram Nightbreaker design or actually sourcing the Nightbreaker and using Sylvania packaging. Hope it's the latter, the original Silverstar was incredibly underwhelming.
