Webcame Surveillance System

My sister-in-law is having her first child, and she would like to setup a home surveillance system. I saw a logitech webcam and bestbuy a few months ago that was advertised as this. I was wondering if I can use any webcam connected to a desktop, and use this as a security camera?

Will she be able to somehow remotely log in to that camera so that she can monitor it from work? Any software that is suggested?

I suggest not using wireless cameras. Someone else with a receiver can see and hear everything that is going on in your house.

Most, if not all, modern wireless cameras are password protected...
