I've got a 93 toyota pickup with the v6/4x4. Its time for new tires and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to change to 225/75-15 from my 31/10.5 or just get mild treaded 31's and hope for the best.

The truck is 4x4 but i dont need or use it so loosing MS tires are not a big deal. Im looking to improve my mpg quite a bit and think tires would do it. Im worried about my gearing, which is 4.56 since the truck was fitted with 31's factory.

My old 22re toyota 4x4 had 30' muds on it. and I got 13-16mpg, changing to 225's put me in the low to mid 20s without trying. Im wondering if I could expect this in the v6....

Also, has anyone done this, Im mildly concerned with the truck looking stupid as well.

What about a 255/70-15? This to me would be a winner, the tire wouldn't look stupid (too small), and you'd be able to lose the
mud tire design.

There's some good choices in that size, and it is much closer to the 31/10.5 size wise.

The 31/10.5 equates to a 267/76-15.
