I thought most people didn't like Militec-1 because it sucks as a lube and a protectant, not because of cracks. I admit I fell for the Militec-1 hype. And that's all it is - hype. The stuff I got would get sticky after a month or so in the safe, and burned off to quickly when used on an AR bolt.
A quick google search for chlorinated esters shows most people are parroting a post from Grant Cunningham's website. I didn't see much else besides that.
As for your M1 question, I don't know. However, considering M1 spends its life in metallic environment (oil pan, crank, valves, pistons, etc.), if the oil itself was significantly corrosive to metal, I doubt XOM never would have brought it to market.
I'm not a chemist or metallurgist, so I could be very wrong. Hopefully someone can correct me.
