Some car washes have a shampoo unit you could try. If you have a carpet cleaner with a hand attachment I would try that. SpotBot.
I would not get it overly wet unless you can suck up the water with a machine. Even a wet/dry vac would do in a pinch.

+1 No odor and does a great job at removing just about everything. Spray liberally, scrub with a carpet brush and blot dry with a terrycloth towel.
Zep high traffic also does a nice job (red, not blue bottle.) I generally will use Folex for the hard stains and scrub all the carpet with Zep. Both are great at stain and odor removal.
